Developers want to press ahead

Backers of the Rackheath eco-town want to press ahead with four projects by the end of the year. The government last week pledged up to £16m towards the scheme which will see more than 4,000 new eco-friendly homes built in the area - with the cash given to Broadland District Council.

Government pledges up to £16m for Rackheath eco-town

The government today gave the green light to a pioneering eco-town scheme on the edge of Norwich with a pledge of up to nearly £16m for the project. Housing minister John Healey said the Rackheath eco-town project will receive £9.55m of government funds from a £60m pot in the coming year to kickstart the scheme for around 4,150 eco-homes.

Norfolk eco town funding decision ‘imminent’

A decision on a multi-million pound bid to kick-start Norfolk's controversial eco-town is “imminent”, according to officials. Broadland Council asked the government for a £28.4m share of a £60m pot to help fund a 4,150 home eco-community at Rackheath, near Norwich - which could become the country's first eco-town.
