Alconbury Airfield Huntingdon

The former US Airforce Base at Alconbury, Cambridge, is probably the largest brownfield regeneration in East Anglia. The site comprises around 405 ha (1,000 acres) and has been promoted for an inter-modal rail served distribution facility.

The site was granted outline planning permission in December 2003 for 603,865 sq m (6,500,000 sq ft) of distribution warehousing following a planning application by Alconbury Developments Limited (a joint venture between Prologis and the site owners, The Ministry of Defence).

Building Partnerships formed part of the advisory team for the Ministry of Defence on all issues in connection with the development of the site including:
  • Sustainable development alternatives including mixed use.
  • Planning, planning appeal and planning agreements.
  • Master planning the site.
  • Maximising rental income and development value.
  • Construction of infrastructure (roads and rail) and phasing.
  • Strategic issues and options on adjoining land.
The site was sold following lengthy negotiations for £27.5m to property Company Urban and Civic at the end of 2009.
