Rackheath Eco-Community

Rackheath, to the north east of Norwich, has been selected by the Government as one of four preferred sites in the UK suitable for development as an eco-town.

Building Partnerships conceived the project in 2003 and since then have promoted the scheme and put together a team to work in conjunction with the landowners and Barratts Strategic to promote the 926 acre site for a new community involving around 4000 residential homes and associated business facilities.

Eco-Communities such as Rackheath will be low carbon developments, designed to the highest environmental standards and acting as best practice examples for future design and construction. They will feature renewable on-site energy production capable of supplying heat and power to every home, user-friendly public transport systems encouraging people to use trains, buses, cycles and walkways, efficient recycling and waste management, high quality amenities, including shops, schools and sports facilities and a network of green open spaces, parks and gardens.

The site will be developed over the next 10 years with the first planning application programmed for 2011.
